If due respect is not given, we will change the regime, warns Era Sampanthan, the Leader of the Opposition and TNA

We are currently acting with composure, fairly and honestly to secure respect within a united country.  If that will not happen, a situation will arise where we had to change the regime which is running without our consent, said the Leader of the Opposition and Leader of the TNA, Era Sampanthan.

He said this in the meeting with the people in the Trincomalee Town council, held yesterday in support of the TNA candidates contesting in the LG Election. International countries are watching this election to determine whether the Tamil people united. Tamil people are struggling for a long time.

As per the basic declaration of the UN, no people could be ruled without their consent. We have the right to Autonomy. That right should be respected. We are currently acting with composure, fairly and honestly to secure respect within a united country.  If that will not happen, a situation will arise where we had to change the regime which is running without our consent.

Today some people are saying that we are cooperating with the Government and we are handling the matters of the Tamil people with due intensity. We are not partners of the Government and we are not Ministers. We will not accept Ministerial posts  until such time that our people are able to handle their affairs by themselves based on their Right to Self Determination.

A cruel rule was in place in the country earlier. We changed it with the vote power of our people.

On the basis of it we are getting solutions relevant to the problems of Land and Missing persons.
