The former CM, C.V.Wigneswaran said that it is our duty to remember the liberation fighters who had laid their lives for us.
He has said so in a press release he issued yesterday.
We could find the events of remembering heroes right from the Greek period through war time remembrances held in the world over to the current days. Remembering Liberation Fighters is a duty to be performed by respective societies to which they belonged. This is considered as an important characteristic of any Civilised Society. In conflict resolution theories, it is held as matter of importance of memories of people who have lost their lives in wars.
But an unfortunate situation is existing today where lot of opposition being expressed against observing Maveerar Day.
The international society should understand the lowly attitude of the South, could not digest the mourning of the parents, relatives and friends and the brothers and sisters comforting themselves by remembering their kins. I firmly believe that no opposition could destroy the will of the people to remember their loved ones.
I request the Tamil people to observe the day peaceful and adhering to due procedures.
The hearts which laid their lives with an intention of the Tamil people should live freely and with all their rights, shall live forever in our hearts.
