A resolution banning entertainment events including carnivals was adopted unanimously in the Jaffna Municipal Council yesterday.
The Monthly sitting of the Jaffna Municipal Council was held yesterday. The above resolution was proposed by Tamil National People’s Front member Varatharaja Partheeban.
All entertainment events and carnivals should be banned on Tamil National uprising days including commemoration days. Especially , on days such as, the Muliwai Genocide Day on May 18,The initial final days of the Thileepan memorial week and the Maveerar Week of the Liberation Tigers, entertainment events and carnivals should be banned. The JMC should not grant permission to such events.
Further he also proposed that activities of social aberrations should not be allowed in event within Municipal Limits. Particularly, he pointed out that, in an event organized by the Army, Liquor bottles were offered as prizes.
MMC, Remidius proposed that Sivakumaran’s memorial day also be included.
The Mayor suggested that events cannot be banned for the whole of Maveerar Week and 26th and 27th days be included in the said days.
The resolution was adopted unanimously with the amendment of the Mayor.
