A special discussion on Co-operative Societies was held yesterday in the Weerasingam Hall, during which the above accusation was made. The EPDP had used two buildings of the Jaffna COOP Society for years, one building at Bastian Junction and a shop in Weerasingham hall. Further, the buildings had been rented at an amount far less than the market value. This was accepted by the representative of the Jaffna MPCS, who took part in the meeting.
When contacted over this the Secretary General of the EPDP, Doughlas Devanantha said that, he don’t know what had happened, he will have to look at the documents before answering. We have paid some money, no arrears as such. I have to inquire and say, he said.
