Establishing a Commission to study the release of TPPs ,  an eye-wash, says Rev. Sakthivel

The leader of the Association for the release  of Tamil Political Prisoners , Rev. Fr. Sakthivel opposed the establishment of a Commission to study into the release of the Tamil Political Prisoners  as merely an eye wash and that they consider this as a tactics to drag time on.

He said this while participating in a media conference held at Hatton and answering questions from the media.

Elaborating further he said that it was their position that the Political Prisoners should be released by taking a political decision. However, in a context where the majority Sinhalese people not accepting our position , Gnanasara thero had expressed an opinion like that. Further he had said that a Commission should be established to study about the release of the Tamil political Prisoners.

It’s a welcome fact that Gnanasara Thero got that kind of idea. Our wish is that this idea should spread among the Majority Sinhala people.

This is an overall Political problem of the Tamil people. This is a political problem … it should be looked through political angle, not a terrorist corner. That is our demand.

Although several Commissions had been appointed in the past, no Government had accepted and implemented the recommendations of the Commissions. We consider this as an act of dragging on time, he said.
