Excavations suspended at Mannar Mass grave: Samples of skeletons to be sent to Florida for carbon analysis
For the last two days the excavations at the Mannar Mass Grave have been suspended. It is announced that they will be resumed on the 17th. Meanwhile, arrangements are being made to send samples of recovered skeletons to Florida for Carbon Analysis.
Currently many factions are paying attention on the Mass Grave at Mannar. Ambassadors and representatives of several countries and Embassies had paid direct visits to the mass Grave site and had studied the situations there.
In this context the excavations have not been done for the last two days since the Special JMO in charge of Excavations had gone to Colombo on official matters. The excavations will be resumed on 17th after the Special JMO, Chaminthe Rajapakse returns to the site, it is learnt.
276 complete skeletons including those of 21 children had been identified in the Mass Grave. 269 them had been cleaned and handed over to the Mannar Court.
Further action has been taken to send samples of skeletons to Florida for carbon analysis.It is learnt that the samples will be sent for analysis around January next year.
