Expired medicines found in Jaffna Teaching Hospital

Valuable but expired medicines kept in inappropriate storage had been recovered from the Surgery unit of Jaffna Teaching Hospital, it is reported in Local newspapers.

This had been discovered by a group of special Officers from Colombo who were making audit inquiries at the Teaching Hospital about pharmacists, Technical unit and the building constructions.

The Orthopedic unit is operating in a separate building and although it had been shown in accounts that air conditioning had been fitted to the unit, it was found that no such fitting had been made in the unit.

Inquiries were also undertaken in an angle of whether drugs from the Operation theatre unit are being smuggled out to private pharmacies and hospitals.

On contacting the Director of the Teaching Hospital, Dr.Sathiyamoorthy, he had said some officials have come from Colombo for inquiries but their final report had not been received by him.
