The NP GMOA has requested that the curfew be extended for another week in Jaffna Districts. In a press release issued by it, it has stated that the curfew is to lifted with a short notice in Jaffna District.

We held an urgent meeting with the NP Director of Health Services yesterday. Representatives of the Branches of Point Pedro Base Hospital Thellipallai Cancer Hospital, Jaffna Regional Health Services and the JTH participated in this meeting.

We learned that the decision to lift the curfew was taken against recommendation of the GMOA. GMOA has recommended that the curfew be lifted only after 27th , as  16 persons in contact with the pastor is afflicted with Corona, 80 persons  out of 329 person are still to be tested and 1,200 foreign returnees are remaining without being subjected to necessary tests.

By undertaking necessary test at least these people, the social infection level will be revealed. The hospitals are not ready to handle patients who will come to them with other diseases.

Hence we request that the curfew be extended for a week so as to facilitate the completion of test on suspected persons and make necessary health arrangements to hand other patients, they have said.
