The Federal system is not opposed to Majority people, says Sumanthiran in Agalawatte

It cannot be said that the federal System is against the Sinhal, Buddhist majority said TNA Spokesman and MP, M.A.Sumanthiran.

He said this in an awareness creating meeting held at Mathugama, Agalawatte, on Sunday, for creating awareness regarding the New Constitution and the 20th amendment.

One characteristic of democracy is in taking decision by majority will. But when this happen in Multi-National countries minorities have to be abide by Majority decision. Hence a devolution of power is needed. This is Federal System. This could be done with the Federal sign board or without it.

Although countries like Spain say they have unitary state system, power devolution there is very close to Federal System.

There is Democrcy and Socialism in the name board of the country. But No democracy or Socialism is found in the country. So let us not lift up name boards.

Although Tamils are minority in the country, they are living in majority in North and East. When the powers are shared, they will be able to take their own decisions he said.
