The people of Iranaitheevu, who are engaged in a struggle demanding that their lands be released, said that, no progress has been made relevant to the release of their lands.
They commenced their struggle on the 1st of May last year demanding that their lands be released and they be allowed to settle there and undertake their traditional fishing and agriculture. They said that they are engaged in this struggle for the last nine months and although promises were given to them no progress has been made and they are continuing to struggle without any livelihood.
Following a discussion with the Navy regarding the releasing of the lands of people, surveying was done , but no progress has been beyond that.
When contacted over this the Poonakary Divisional Secretariat circles said that the final report of the Surveying has not been received so far and that they could only place the request for the release to the Ministry of Defense.
