The first coin of the Anuradhapura Era discovered in Mannar

Excavations for archaeological remains by Archaeological Department are being undertaken at the site of the National Public Play ground that is being constructed in Naruvilikulam as from the last 29th .

The Archaeological Department office at the site said that this location is popular as a Harbour even before historical periods.This had been a trade hub for Rome, China and Persia.He cited the discovery of 1st coin of the Anuradhapura period here as the evidence of the above.

While saying that ten spots had been identified here and excavation are being under taken at eight spots, he also said all excavated soil are being taken to Colombo.
