Fisheries Minister orders to expel fishermen from other Districts immediately from Jaffna District

The Minister of Fisheries, Vijithamuni de Soysa has ordered the Ministry officials to inform Police and navy and expel the fishermen from other districts who are engaged in illegal fishing in Vadamaradchchi East and in Northern areas immediately.

The Minister who is on a visit to Jaffna, met the representatives of Fishermen Unions and they pointed out the difficulties they are undergoing by the illegal light fishing of 2 big medalists from other Districts and the damage done by them to the equipment of local fishermen and to the Aqua resources. They also requested that immediate action be taken to expel the fishermen from other districts. After listen to them the Minister issued an immediate order to expel all fishermen from other Districts who are engaged in illegal fishing in Vadamaradchchi North and East.

Following Minister’s order the Vadamaradchchi Fishermen who had planned a demonstration against the President coming for inauguration of renovation work of Myliddy pier have decided to abandon their protest.
