Forest Department Officials stop the construction of anti- elephant fence at Visuvamadu

Although the inauguration event for constructing anti-elephant fence at Visuvamadu , in  Mulaitheevu District, the Forest Department Officials had intervened and stopped it. In a context where funds were allocated under the President’s Special Project for constructing anti-elephant fence for 22 Kilometers , the work for constructing were to commence on Friday.

The fence was to be constructed from Kalmadukkulam to Idaikaadu Kulam,  covering a distance of 22 Kilometers . The event was attended by Officers including, Agrarian Services Department’s Assistant director, S.Punithakumar, the areas Wild Life Departmentofficer, E.D.Kemajith Anuppriya, Agrarian Development Officers, S.Suganthan and Prabaharan and the Grama Officer and members of the rural organizations and work relevant to construction of anti-elephant  fence was commenced in their presence.

However, the Forest department Official had come to the spot and requested that the work be stopped as no approval had been obtained to clear forest areas, and officials responsible for the work have announced that the work had been stopped.
