Kannathasan , a former lecturer of the Faculty of Music of the University of Jaffna and a former Porali who was sentenced to life has been acquitted of all charges and released from the Life sentence imposed by Vavuniya High Court,
The Appeal Court revoked the Life sentence imposed by the Vavuniya High Court and ordered him be released after hearing an appeal filed by Kannathasan.
When the appeal was taken up for hearing the Deputy Solicitor General, Kumar Ratnam submitted that the judgement of the Vavuniya High Court could not be justified and fresh hearing should be undertaken.
If the Attorney General’s Department accept that the judgement could not be justified, no re- hearing could be undertaken but the accused should be released, AAL M.A.Sumanthiran argued.
When the hearing was resumed yesterday, A panel of justices consisting of Achchala Venkaipuli and Priyanka Fernando delivered the above order.
The former Inc Charge of Tamil Eelam Music College and a formelecturer of Faculty of Music of the Jaffna University, Kannathasan was sentenced to life, under PTA by the Vavuniya High Court on 26.07.2017, in a case filed by a woman that Kannathasan conscripted her daughter to LTTE.
