Former MMC and Tamul Political Prisoner (TPP), Murugaiah Komagan was arrested at the Katunayake Air Port and was released in the evening. However he had been asked to be present at the Colombo CID on next Monday. When he went to the Air Port for travelling to India, he was informed a travelling ban had been proclaimed against and then arrested by the Air Port Police.
Arrested by the TID police on 23rd August 2010, he was detained for six years in Sri Lankan prisons and was later released on 29th February 2016. Later, when he tried to travel to India for Temple worship in July 2016, he was arrested at the Kattunayake Air Port. Arrested saying travel ban had been proclaimed against him, he was released after inquiries.
After this, Komagan filed an appeal through Senior AAL, K.Thavarasa in Colombo Court requesting the revoking of Travel ban. After hearing the case the judge revoked the travel ban.
He had gone to the Kattunayake Air Port intending to travel to India. He had obtained an air ticket to travel on the Sri Lankan Air Lines flight scheduled for 2.40 p.m. He was arrested when he entered the Air Port at 12.00p.m.
Although Komagan had produced the revocation order of the court, the police had said that the court had not informed the Emigration Department regarding the revocation and arrested Komagan. He was detained at the Air Port and was released in the evening.
