Foundation stone laid for fruit canning factory at Sannasi-Paranthan, under new Concept Project

Under a new concept Project of “Establishing through Re-conciliation the enhancement of Employment opportunities and livelihoods of Northern People” has been undertaken with the financing of Norway.

The inauguration ceremony of the concept was held in Vavuniya, on the 15th of last month. Northern Minister of Agriculture P. Ainkaranesan participated as the chief guest in this event and inaugurated the concept project.

The new concept Project of providing employment opportunities and livelihood in the Northern Province through reconciliation by linking North and the South is to be undertaken in the Vavuniya, Mannar, Mulaitheevu and Kilinoochchi Districts. It has been planned to provide employment and livelihood through encouraging the export of products related to Fruit cultivation, vegetable cultivation and Fisheries. Norway has provided $1.3 Million, as financial aid for this project which is to be implemented by the International Labour Organization.

As the first event of the Project a foundation stone was laid yesterday by Northern Minister P.Aainkaranesan at Sannasi- Paranthan, for fruit canning factory for Vavuniya North Fruit cultivators Cooperative Society.

It is reported that the construction of this fruit canning factory to be constructed at a cost of Rs.4 Million will be completed in four months.

The Ambassador for Norway,  Nut Nyfloat  , MPc, G.T.Linganathan, ILO Project Director, Nihal Devagiri, Asst. Director of Cooperative Development,K.Raveendranathan, Deputy Director of Agriculture, T.yogeswaran and Papaw cultivators participated in the event.
