Four fishermen injured in Navy assault at Pulmoddai, Trincomalee

Four fishermen who were engaged in fishing in Trincomalee /Pulmoddai seas had been injured in an assault by Navy and admitted in Trincomalee  Public Hospital, the Police said.

Abdul hameed Nijamutheen ( Aged 49), Muhamathu Hanifa Muhamadu Aliys (Aged 25), Sameer Muhamath Sameer of Ward No.4 Pulmoddai were the injured while Muhamathu Imran was injured by gun shot.

The fishermen who were fishing in seas off Pulmoddai were chased and fired upon, in which one fisherman sustained gunshot injuries while other three were injured and all four were admitted to Trincomalee General Hospital, the police said.

The navy which said that the fishermen were using illegal nets and fled when ordered stop, had arrested the fishermen and handed them over to the Harbour Police Station.

The Police had admitted the fishermen to General Hospital, Trincomalee and proceeding with further inquiries.
