Four May-Day meetings in Jaffna

Four May-Day Rallies were held in Jaffna with the biggest held by TNA at Maruthanar Madam. TNPF held its May Day rally at Point Pedro and The New Democratic Marxist Leninist Party at Puthur, while the joint May Day rally of Ceylon Teachers Association and University Workers union was held at the University of Jaffna.

The May day procession of TNA started at Inuvil Kanthasamy Kovil, proceed along KKS Road, and ended at the Ramanathan College, where the meeting was held. Leader of the Opposition Era Sampanthan,General Secretary, MawaiSenathyrajah, Media Spokesman, M.A.Sumanthiran, NPC Leader of the House C.V.K. Sivagnnanamm,Ministers , Mmbers, Chairmen of Pradeshiya Sabais, members of the party and several others participated in this meetings.Although it was claimed to be the TNA’s meeting constituent parties were absent at the meeting and it turned out to be a one-man show by TNA.

TNPF held its meeting at point Pedro in the Sivan Kovil Wedding Hall. The Leader of the party, Kajendrakumar Ponnambalam, General Secretary, Kajendran, Organisers and several others participated in the meeting

The joint May rally of Ceylon Teacher’s Association and University Workers Union was held in Kailasapathy Hall at University of Jaffna.

Following were emphasized at these meetings:

*  Motherland, *  Nationalism.,* Self Determination ,* Release of TPPs ,* Finding the missing persons.

* Emancipation of Tamil workers and Fishermen from oppression., * Preventing land grabbing.,

*  Resettlement. ,  * Preventing Militarization  ,  * Stopping arrests under PTA and revocation of PTA.,

* Ensuring Media Freedom.
