FSP opposes Gazette to deploy armed forces
Frontline Socialist Party has expressed its objection to the latest gazette notification that allows the call out of armed forces to maintain law and order in the country.
Spokesperson of FSP Pubudu Jagoda has said to the media that the latest Extraordinary Gazette number 1900/4 issued Monday (2) enables the callout of armed forces for the maintenance of public order around the island. President MaithripalaSirisena had used Section 12 of the Public Security Ordinance (Chapter 40) to make this order through the Gazette notice.
It gives the armed forces and the police powers to conduct raids, search vehicles and residences and take people into custody for interrogation. They have not only been deployed in all administrative districts, but at all national maritime borders. This is violation of the promises fro good governance by the President.
