Udaya Gamanpila appeared before the Financial Crimes Investigations Division yesterday. His statement was recorded over an allegation of financial fraud.
Speaking to the media, Gammanpila stated that allegations were made against him stating that he had brought down a bankrupt businessman from Australia, used the power-of-attorney privilege to sell his shares worth 100,000 dollars. He noted that following the complaint, the police have found out that the Australian businessman in question, Brian Chaddick, did not have any shares.
Gammanpila noted that, as there is no evidence that the Australian Businessman gave him the power of attorney, the complaint has been regarded as baseless and police will not proceed with the complaint against him.
