The Northern Governor ordered relevant Officers to monitor Narcotics related activities and provide monthly reports on them, it is reported.
A meeting for reviewing progress made in activities to control the narcotics abuse and smuggling of Narcotics which are on an increasing trend in the north was held on 31st presided by the Governor Reginold Cooray on a request from all religious leaders.
All religious leaders, Jaffna Mayor, E. Arnold, STF Officer, high level officers of Police, , Navy, Grama Seva Niladharis, Divisional Secretaries, and Excise Officers participated in this meeting.
Speaking at the meeting the Governor said that all factions should act with responsibility in preventing the Narcotics abuse and other illegal activities that increased among the school students and general public. All should act in unison regarding abuse of narcotics. Periodical reports should be submitted regarding progress in this matter. Awareness creating programs should be held among people and school students. If any complaints are received, the police should act speedily and bring the offenders to book, he said.
