After 9 years from the end of the war, a grenade had exploded in the south, in a passenger bus.
The bomb had exploded in bus was travelling from Jaffna to Nuwara Eliya, in which several people including Army and Air Force men were travelling , at around 5.25. 19 people, including 7 soldiers and 5 Air Force men were injured with another 7 public.
Forces men had travelled on leave in a Private Bus. Due to lack of passengers, the bus carrying the passengers was stopped with Bandarawela and passengers were transferred to another bus travelling through Diyatalawa. It is in this bus the bomb had exploded in the 3rd row. Following the explosion the bus had caught fire. The 19 injured including a woman were admitted at the Diyatalawa Hospital. The Director of the Hospital said a leg of one soldier had been amputated and an operation done on another soldier.
Although some tension was created in the area for some time due to a bomb exploding in a passenger bus, the police ruled out a terrorist attack. It is presumed that a grenade carried on the sly by, a soldier had exploded.
