Today is the birthday of Actor Vikram. The actor whose charm and swag are ageless turns 51 today.Vikram entered the film industry as an actor in the early 1990s and struggled a lot to establish himself as a hero. He has worked as a dubbing artist for other heroes in 90s. It was director Bala’s ‘Sethu’ that gave him the much needed break and then on there is no looking back.
After the blockbuster cult film ‘Sethu’, Vikram started acting in mass and class films simultaneously. While ‘Dhil’, ‘Gemini’, ‘Dhool’ and ‘Saamy’ propelled him as one of the top five stars of Kollywood Box office – the position which he holds till date with style, critically acclaimed films like ‘Kaasi’ and ‘Pithamagan’ made people and critics celebrate him as a rare actor. ‘Pithamagan’ fetched him his first National Award for the Best Actor.
It was director Shankar who gave space for Vikram’s phenomenal acting prowess as well as mass star image in both of his films ‘Anniyan’ and ‘Ai’. Vikram set new standards of acting and changing getups and physique with these two films. Especially in ‘Ai’, Vikram stunned everyone with his two drastically different physiques-one 110kgs and the other one 45 kgs. Everyone expected a National award for Vikram for this film but unfortunately he did not get.
Vikram’s latest release ‘Iru Mugan’ in which he played dual roles for the first time is a blockbuster despite getting mixed reviews. He is now acting in ‘Sketch’ directed by Vijay Chander and ‘Dhruva Natchathiram’ directed by Gautham Menon. He will also be taking up ‘Saamy 2’ the much expected sequel to the 2003 blockbuster, ‘Saamy’ directed by Hari, later this year. Vikram plays a North Chennai gangster in ‘Sketch’, a stylish spy agent in ‘Dhruva Natchathiram’ and he will be seen as a mass cop in ‘Saamy 2’. The variation in his character in the three upcoming films has been the phenomenon in all of his films over the years and that’s one of the important reasons why Vikram is something extra special than all other stars heroes.
