Hartal brings Jaffna to a standstill (Photos)

A full ‘Harthal’ had been announced for today to protest against the horrible gang rape and murder of the Student Vidya of Pungudutheevu.

Students of every school expressed their solidarity in protesting against the Gang rape and Murder of Pungudutheevu. The protesters chanted, and many held up banners calling for strict preventive mechanism against sexual violence and maximum punishment for rapists.

Shops were closed down. Most autos and public transport vehicles stayed off the road.

Security forces were massed around Jaffna teaching hospital. Routine life was paralysed.
