The five former militants who had been charged with plotting to murder MP, Sumanthiran were allowed to go on bail by HC Judge Ilancheliyan.
Karalasingam kulendran, Gnnasekaralingam Rajmathan, Murugaiah Thaventhran, Velayuthapillai Wijeyakumar and Louis Marianayagam of the Kilinochchi District were arrested by TID last January accused of plotting to murder TNA MP, Sumanthiran.
A bail application filed by the AAL of the suspects, Thilainathan Archchuna in the High Court. While submitting the bail application the AAL said that the suspect were integrated with the Society after rehabilitation. They had been detained for 9 months now. They say that they were made suspects just because they were former militants and with a revenging motive. The situation of their families and their livelihood had been affected badly, he said.
However the state counsel stated that information had been received that the suspects are planning to escape to India by sea, and that he is objecting granting of bail. He also said that no evidences had been recovered from the suspects.
After hearing the submission the Judge Ilancheliyan granted bail with condition saying that just because the suspects were former militants, they cannot be detained for ever.
