Death, Life, and prison sentence, were passed on the three accused including 2 former members of LTTE and an Army Corporal by Justice Ilancheliyan yesterday.
Robbers who entered a house in the Chankanai Murugamoorthy Road, on 2010.04.11 fired on the inmates with a T-56 rifle and robbed jewellery and a Motor cycle. SivananthaKurukkal Nithyanantha Kurukkal was killed in the firing and his two sons were seriously injured.
Following investigations, Kasinathan Muhunthan alias Sakthy, Balasubramanium Sivaruban and an Army Corporal, Pethuru Gunasena were arrested. Non-summary trials were held at Mallakam Courts and the case was handed over to the Attorney General’s Department. A Case of trespass, firing weapon, killing the Kurukkal, injuring two persons and robbery was filed against the three accused in the High Court, Jaffna.
All three were identified in the hearings before Judge Illancheliyan and the accused were identified guilty. The judgment was passed yesterday.
All three accused were sentenced to death for the murder of the priest; life sentence for robbery using automatic weapon and to jail sentences and ordered to pay Rs.200,000/= as compensation to the injured.
