Hindu temple belonging to the 13 century AD at Mannar/ Kurunthan area
In a Field – research undertaken by the Assistant lecturer and the Students of the History faculty led by the Coordinator of the Jaffna University’s Faculty of History Prof. Paramu Pushparatnam, the ruins of a Hindu Temple belonging to the 13 century AD in the Kurunthan Kulam area in Mannar District.
Prof. Pusparatnam said that this may be the place referred to as “Kurunthy” in Sinhala literature and that “Chavakan “ may have links with this place.
In this temple constructed with lime and bricks, Karpakkiraham, Artha Mandapam, Antharalam, Palipeedam are remaining along with columns.
