Hindus banned from worshiping at Vedukkunarimalai in Nedunkerny

The Archaeological Department has brought the Vedukkunarimalai in Olumadhu, Nedunkerny, which had been traditionally preserved and worshiped by Tamil people from ancient times, under their jurisdiction and has announced that no one can go into or worship their and anybody trespassing will be prosecuted.

When contacted over this, the member of the Nedunkerny Pradeshiya Saba and the Secretary of the Administrative Board of the Vedukkunarimalai Aathy Aiyanar Temple, Thurairasa Thamilchelvan said that, the people of Nedunkerny had preserved the Temple and the jungle around it for a long time.

Particularly when some persons tried to break up the hill and get granite, people of Nedunkerny intervened and prevented them. The Administrators of the Temple was summoned to the police station and 4 officers of the Archaeological Department who had come there informed that the hill had come under their authority and nobody should trespass inside the jungle and the hill.

Then we asked for permission to hold the already organized Aadi Amavasai event, permission was refused. However on intervention by the police, permission was granted, he said.
