Hundred thousands of dead fish drift towards shore in Vadduvagal Lagoon, Drought, alleged  culprit

Hundreds of thousands of dead fish are found floating towards the shores of Vadduvagal lagoon for the last two days. It  is alleged that the prolonging drought is the reason behind the death of the fish.

240  families which depend on the Vadduvagal Lagoon for their livelihood are drastically  affected by this phenomenon.

Although on the request of the fishermen to deepen the lagoon, funds had been allocated in the budget no action was forthcoming to deepen the lagoon.

As foul smells coming from the floating fish are discomforting commuters of Vadduvagal Bridge, the fishermen had requested for the removal of the dead fishes. When the Aqua Resources  Department officials were contacted over this they said that last also the same thing happened and NARA Organization which under took a study said that fish had died of lack of Oxygen. This may be the cause of the deaths this year also said he.
