India donates 1.7 million for Cultural Centre in Jaffna

As per request of the Sri Lankan Government, the Indian Government has donated Rs. 1.7 million, for the construction of Cultural Centre in Janna, the Resettlement Ministry announced yesterday.

Under the guidance of President Maithripala Sirisena, the Cultural Centre will be constructed between the Jaffna Library and Pullukkulam. It will be constructed to facilitate open air events. The Ministry of Resettlement is acting as the implementation authority.

The objective of this centre will be to provide an appropriate social infrastructure facility to the people of Northern Province, Building up the ancient Culture of the District of Jaffna, and the revival of cultural tradition, said the Secretary to the Ministry, Sivagnasothy.

This Centre will consist of an auditorium that could seat 600 persons, Multi media library with research facilities, Gallery, museum, musical and Dance instruments, Class room set ups and other auditoriums.

The construction work of this center commenced on 3rd August 2016, he said.
