The fishermen of Kiranchi Coast pointed out in the CC meeting for Pooneryn that as the Indian Trawlers have been anchored along Kiranch coastal line, around 70 fishermen are unable to undertake their usual fishing activities.
CC meeting of the Pooneryn Divisional area was held in the Divisional Secretariat hall, presided by M P, S.Sritharan. The above matter was pointed out in this meeting by the fishermen.
Indian Trawlers captured for poaching in Sri Lankan waters, have anchored in the seas off Kiranchchgi. It is reported that these trawlers have been anchored there under orders from the Court. Because of this more than 70 families are hindered.
Hence the fishermen have demanded that these trawlers should be shifted elsewhere of compensations be paid to them until the trawlers are shifted elsewhere.
A decision was made that the fishermen should give their demand in writing and action should be taken to shift the trawlers elsewhere with the permission of the court through the Divisional Secretary in conjunction with the Navy.
