In a context where the promises of politicians and Officials have not been fulfilled, and not gaining anything from our struggles and demonstrations, we have taken a decision and have come here in boats without the help of anyone, and we are cooking and eating on our own soil. We will not leave this place now. said the people of Iranaitheevu.
Last Monday, the people of Iranaitheevu went in 50 boats bearing white flags and landed in Iranaitheevu. They worshiped at the Church in Iranaitheevu at 10.30 a.m. and then engaged in a struggle demanding them to be settled in their own lands. The Navy there asked them to undertake struggle in consultation with the officers. Refusing their request the people had commenced a struggle at the church.
Unless the District Secretary or Officials who could take decisions come and take action to resettle them, they are not going to move from this place, they said. They are cooking and eating their food in front of the church. More woman led families had gone there. They have now started to catching maddy and beach de mer.
It is notable that, when the people started their continuous struggle, the State Minister of Defence had a discussion with them and ordered the officials to undertake the resettlement of people.
