Irranaimadu Water released for Maha Season (Kala Pokam)

Water was released for the paddy cultivation from The Iranaimadu Tank in Kilinochchi for the first time, after two years of renovation and development work. Special worships were made at the Kanakambikai Amman and Vaddakkachchi Ottai Pillayar Temples prior to the opening of the sluices. MP, Sritharan and former NPC Ministers, P.Ainkaranesan and Kurukularajah ceremoniously opened the sluices.

Around 21,985 acre are cultivated under Iranaimadu, the biggest Irrigation Tank in the Northern Province. The current water level at only 19 feet because of the renovation work and low rain falls. However, on the request of the farmers water is being released for the first time after renovation.
