Jayalalithaa, leaders slam fuel price hike

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Thursday criticised the hike in petrol and diesel prices and emphasised the need for revising the price fixation model for petrol and diesel. She also sought rollback of the hike, as it would result in increase in prices of goods which will “severely impact” the poor and middle classes.

“I have often pointed out that determining prices of petrol and diesel based on international fuel rates is not right,” she said in a statement, adding that such a price fixation mechanism paves the way for oil marketing companies to make a huge profit.

Slamming the price hike, PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss said there was no transparency in the way the prices were fixed. In a separate statement, Tamil Maanila Congress chief GK Vasan urged the government to roll back the fuel price hikes.(THE HINDU,2016)
