JHU consents to local investigation to refute allegations

JHU General Secretary Minister Patali Champika Ranawake has stated that the JHU is agreeable to an investigation into the alleged war crimes to refute allegations against military personnel. But it must be through a local mechanism.

Addressing a media briefing, he said that JHU is opposed to a hybrid court hearing. But technical assistance could be sought from UNHRC to make the investigation effective. That must be done after a cabinet decision, a collective decision. We must stand united without any racial or religious differences.

He also charged that it was former president Mahinda Rajapakse who introduced the concept of hybrid court when he appointed the Maxwell Paranagama Commission.
