Northern Province Governor, Suren Ragavan had advised Buddhist Monk to join the Tamil devotees who will come to Neeraviyadi Pillaiyar Kovil so as create a race unity.
The Buddhist Monk who had encroached the Neeraviyadi Pillaiyar Kovil premises had phoned yesterday the Governor and had informed him that lot of Tamil people are coming to the Temple to celebrate Pongal and requested the Governor to take suitable action as the massing of Tamil people may cause problems.
The Governor in reply had said that he is not prepared to intervene in religious affairs, but had told the monk that Tamil devotees will not want to create any problem and he had advised instead, for the Monk should join the Tamils in celebrating Pongal so as to create race unity.
Pongal was cooked and offered in 108 pots in the temple yesterday.
MP, Sivamohan had said that the said monk had been given permission to construct the vihare during the ‘52’ days rule of Mahindha Rajapakse.
