Professor Muthukumarasamy, Law Faculty of Singapore University said yesterday in Jaffna, that the justice for the Genocide perpetrated on the Tamil People of Sri Lanka will be delivered some day. Even if that justice is not delivered in the near future, it will be definitely delivered with the changes that will occur over passage of time. Even if we, the Tamils fail to get a solution through the New Constitution, International Law will constitute a strong shield.
He was speaking in the Tamil Political Council meeting held day before yesterday after a postponement due to the acts of factions with vested interest under a theme of “ International Law as the shield for the Rights of Tamil people of the North and East.
When asked as to whether the International Law has the power to impose punishment he said that, the International Law has no power to impose punishments, but, we are witnessing changes in that position. Those who perpetrated genocide were pulled up before courts. Those who perpetrated breach of law during war periods have been brought to the courts. Although, the changes may not occur immediately, changes will happen over the time. We have to take action basing on the changes, he said.
The whole international Community is observing the excesses committed here. That is a safeguard for us. A fear has been caused now that if the Sri Lankan Government commits any offence against us, they may have to face punishment. That also is a safeguard to us, he further said.
