JVP files complaint on MR family

JVPThe Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) today filed a complaint at the Bribery and Corruption Commission against President Mahinda Rajapaksa and his brothers.

JVP Parliamentarian Vijitha Herath said that bribery and corruption complaints had been filed on former Minister Basil Rajapaksa, Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa and former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

He said that complaints had also been filed against former Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal, former Ministers Rohitha Abeygunawardena and other officials who were in the former Government.

Herath said that the complaint involved the misuse of public funds while they were in office and through that their corrupt activities.

The JVP wants the Bribery and Corruption Commission to prevent the Rajapaksa family from leaving the country while there is an investigation on them.

Herath said that the Bribery and Corruption Commission has the authority to seize the passports of the accused until an investigation is complete.
