The Kankesanthurai Pier was handed over to people use yesterday after 28 years. After a short worship at the pier boats were sent on a ceremonial first run.
The Chairman of Vali-North PS, S.Sugirthan, members of the PS and people of the area and several others participated in the event.
“40 acre lands in Grama Niladhari Divisions of Kankesanthurai Centre and Kankesanthurai West were released on May 28th. The people who resettled there should be provided with means of carrying on their trade. As most of them were engaged in Fishing, the Kurankan thurai in Kankesanthurai had been handed over to those people” said the Chairman of the Vali-North PS. Assistances are needed for these fishermen to build up their livelihood, he insisted. He further insisted that the road from Kankesanthurai to Naguleswaram also should be released.
