The Mannar Police have captured 110 Kilos of Ganja with a street value of Rs.11 million. The Anti-drugs squad of Mannar captured this ganja at the 2nd mile post on Mannar – Thalai Mannar highway in the early hours of yesterday.
Kerala Ganja packs weighing 110 kg. were captured from a Hi-ace van, while being taken from Thalai Mannar to the South.
On a secret tip-off received by Mannar police, they had speedy action, and had intercepted a Hi-ace Van at 2nd mile post on Mannar – Thalai Mannar High way and had searched it. Their search had revealed 110 kg. Kerala Ganja hidden in the van and they have arrested two persons from Anuradhapuram and Colombo from the van. It was found out from the inquiries that these ganja packs were in the process of being smuggled from Thalai Mannar to the South.
The suspects have been detained in Mannar police and inquiries made on them.
Meanwhile, 118 Kgs of Kerala ganja with street value of Rs.23.6 Million brought from India to Sri Lanka by sea rout was captured by Valveddithurai Police at Arasady, Thondaimanaru. Three persons were arrested with the Ganja lot.
On a Tip-off received by Valveddithurai Police on saturday, early morning, they had laid an ambush led by OIC, T.Rajkumar near a cemetery at Arasady. At that time the Ganja nhad been smuggled from India with the intention of taking it to South Sri Lanka through Thondaimanaru.
Three persons aged 24,26,35, all of Kerudavil were arrested and that they will be produced in courts after the inquiries are completed said the police.
