Kili/Akkarayan area Hospital converted into Corona treatment Centre- Organizations protest

Northern Health Officials had taken yesterday a decision of converting Akkarayan Hospital into a Corona treatment Centre within one month.

The Akkarayan Hospital which is in use of large number of people is being converted into a Corona treatment centre, excluding the protest of several public organization which have pointed out there are other more suitable hospital to establish the Corona treatment centre.

The above decision was taken in a meeting held yesterday at the Office of the Kilinochchi Regional Director of Health Services.

The NP Director of Health Services had instructed the Director of Kilinochchi Hospital, to convert the Akkarayan Hospital into a Corona Treatment Centre, in the meeting attended by persons including NP Director of Health Services, Director of Health Services , Kilinochchi and Director of Kilinochchi Hospital.

Henceforth, the  people of Akkarayan area have to travel a long distance to Kilinochchi Hospital for medical treatment.

Meanwhile , it has been decided to shift the Out Patients Department of Akkarayan Hospital to Skanthapuram as from next Monday.

Several people have suggested to establish Corona treatment centre in areas with less population.

As this ais a flood prone area, roads to the hospital will be submerged in flood waters during rainy season and the danger of corona spreading through is also looming high.

With all these negative aspects the decision has been taken to convert the hospital into a Corona Treatment Centre.
