Statements from 20 persons including women and former militants with regard to the killing of the two policemen in Vavunatheevui area and 2 persons have been detained for further inquiries.
Kanesh Thinesh (aged 28 years) from Kalmunai Neelavanai and Prasana from Galle were found dead at the police check post at Vavunatheevu with T-56 gunshot injuries and each with 21 stab wounds. It has been established in the postmortem that stab injuries had been inflicted with different knives.
The IGP, who made a direct visit to the spot appointed a 7-man police special team for the investigation of this crime.
