Three of the five suspect Police officers accused in the killing of two Jaffna University students by shooting have turned crown witnesses.
The Magistrate court had ordered that a non-summary trial be undertaken against the other two suspects.
Two University students were killed in police firing at Kokkuvil Kulappiddy junction in the mid-night of 2016/10/24.Five policemen attached to Jaffna Police station were arrested and remanded in this connection.
After being remand for 11 months, the five accused were released on bail in last September by the High Court of Jaffna.
This case was taken up for hearing yesterday at the magistrate Court yester in a context of the non-summary trial being conducted.2nd , 4th and the 5th suspects were released from the case during this hearing. The CID informed the court that these three are being released on instructions from the AG.
Following this the case had been postponed to 2nd October. On that day the non-summary trial will be concluded and the case reports will be forwarded to the AG for High Court actions, it is reported.
