Kurunagar and Passaiyoor Fishermen unable to dry their nets due Army Camps along the shores

The fishermen of Passaiyoor and Kurunagar have pointed out that they are compelled to dry their nets by road sides as the army had located their camps along the shorelines. The Coordination Committee meeting of Jaffna Divisional Secretariat was held day before yesterday.

MPc, Arnold said that legal action should be taken against persons drying fishing nets on the roads as they cause accidents often. The officer representing Fisheries Department said that they are providing awareness to fishermen regarding this, but the Department in charge of the roads could take legal action on them.

At this point the Representatives of the Fishermen said that, the beaches are occupied by Army Camps depriving them of places to dry their nets.  Therefore the nets are being dried on the roads they said. The TNA MP, E.Saravanapavan  who is presiding over the meeting said that before taking legal action on the Fishermen proper facilities should be made available to them and the Coastal Preservation Department should take necessary action regarding this matter.
