A Buddhist monk has asked the Vavuniya District Secretary, for the land in Moonamadhu, where a Buddha statue worshiped by Army soldiers exist. The District secretariat has announced that a decision regarding this will be taken in the DDC Meeting. People living Moonamadu and Peyadikoolangkulam had undertaken Agriculture for a very long time. During Harvesting period they used to worship at this Naga Bhoosany Amman Temple and constructed resting places near their fields. After the harvest they used to offer Pongal at the temple.
This area went under the control of the Army in 1995 and they constructed a Buddha statue for their worship. Although the Army released these areas, the Buddha statue was left behind.
In this context a Buddhist monk has requested this land and the District Secretariat had said that a decision could be taken in the DDC meeting.
