Lands given by LTTE at Kaively  to Maveerar Families and Militants in control of Forest Department

25 housing lands given by the LTTE, to former militants and Maveerar families at Kaively are now in the control of the Forest Department. The people belonging to these families have requested that these lands be Lands over to them. The people who went to this area expressed concern over their houses toilets and wells being in a state of full destruction.

Elaborating further the people said, that, Lands were issued by the LTTE in the year 2000 in Puthukudiyiruppu/Kaively area to Maveerar and Poraly families. In 2006, 25 houses were built and given in that area.

When the people who were displaced from there after the final war in 2009 returned there at the end of the war, the Army prohibited them from going there. As we were former militants we avoided confrontation with the Army and went away.

Now in the context of the Army vacating the area, Forest Department has acquired those lands.

Although the war has ended, we are living below poverty line. If these lands are given to us we could engage in home garden and earn our livelihood. We should also be provided with the compensations for the houses, wells and toilets.

People went to the area in company of NPC Member T.Ravikaran and placed the above requests to him. In reply he had said that he will bring the problem to the attention of the Chief minister and the Coordinating Committee and take action to get the lands.
