The Governor, Northern Province, Reginold Cooray had a three-man committee to inquire into an allegation that the Cooperatives and Women’s Affairs had spent 32 million Rupees without the approval of the Council.
These inquiries are being initiated on a written complaint by the former Leader of the House, NPC, C.V.K.Sivagnanam.
The Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Thiruvaharan, the Director of the Audit Department, Northern Province, Surenthiny, The Accountant of the NP Department of Health, Kajenthiran are to undertake the above inquiries.
Earlier, on the eve of the new NPC administration was to take over, the then Governor of Northern Province, N.Chandrasiri, transferred funds amounting to 320 Million to Governor’s Fund. After the NPC taking over this 320 Million was re-transferred to NPC funds and was given to the Ministry of Cooperatives and Women’s Affairs, and later transferred to Cooperative Department and spent through Rural Bank.
The complaint had been made on reason that although the approval of the council had to be obtained for such expenditure, no such approval had been obtained from the Council.
