Large number of Teak Trees cut down in Mullai/Odduchuddan

Large number of Teak Trees cut down in Mullai/Odduchuddan

Every country needs 35%  forest cover to keep the ecological balance. LTTE was lauded for keeping this balance in the areas under their control while waging fierce war. They ensured that at least two trees are for every tree cut down.

They planted long stretch along Odduchuddan – Nedunkerny Road with Teak trees. All through the war they continued this practice and as a result teak forests.

However after the war, the areas changed hands several factions played havoc with the trees, especially the Forest Department which in encroaching even titled properties.

Now, the State Timber Corporation with the connivance of forest Department  is devastating these valuable trees, by cutting them down and transporting  them other districts. Whenever journalists go to cover such (may be illegal) events they are being threatened by security forces providing security to these events.

Area people now say that the politicians and relevant Officials should take action to stop this economic genocide.
