Leader of TNA must be recognized as the opposition leader: TNA claims

Tamil National Alliance has categorically pronounced that acting in accordance with Parliamentary conventions, traditions and practice, the leader of TNA must be recognized as the opposition leader  in the next Parliament.

In s statement issued, TNA stated that following the August 17 general elections, UNP emerged as the party that has the largest seats in the new Parliament, while the UPFA surfaced as the second largest party on the basis of seats obtained.

The TNA statement further argued that now, that both UNP and the UPFA have opted to form a government, it is TNA holding 16 seats in Parliament that must be recognized as the opposition.

TNA statement maintained that the TNA leader R.Sampanthan must be offered the opposition leader post recognizing democratic and parliamentary traditions.
