Lift irrigation facilities in the “ Puluthi Aru Scheme– Inaugurated by the Nothern Chief Minister
Lift Irrigation facilities had been provided in the ‘Puluthi Aru’ scheme in Mayavanoor, Kilinochi. Completed at a cost of Rs.32 million, this scheme will facilitate irrigation to about100 acres. This irrigation facility was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Northern Province Friday.
“ This scheme was commenced and completed in front of our eyes and shows out the importance given by us to Agriculture and Fisheries. This area is a raised area and irrigating it was very difficult, But in 2001 a bund was built across ‘Puluthi Aru’ by ‘people who safe guarded the welfare of the people’ ‘Puluthy Aaru Tank’ was constructed.
“ This scheme was undertaken to sully this water to the high lands and we have provided seeds and equipment to clear forests and engage in cultivation of subsidiary crops.
“ We have come into a stage, where our people had to think and take decision policy wise. We could bring capital Investments from abroad, establish factories, produce quality products, export them and reap good profits. While engaging in Fisheries and encouraging small industries is another way. Perhaps, the development of Industrial Sector may entail to establish factories.”, he said.
